Campos de Hielo Norte, is an ice field that has an area of approximately 4200 km² , and is entirely within the region of Aysén of the Republic of Chile. It is approximately 120 km long in a north-south direction and 50 to 70 km wide (depending on the latitude) in an east-west direction.
Some geographical points of interest within the CHPN include:
- The San Valentín mountain , in the northern portion of the CHPN, of 4058 msnm and that is considered the highest one of the Chilean Patagonia ;
- The Cerro Arenales of 3437 msnm near the south margin; Y
- The biggest tourist attraction in the area: the San Rafael lagoon , with the San Rafael glacier , the drift-net at sea level closest to the equator in the world.
Further to the south, and separated by the Isthmus of Ofqui , is located the glacier San Quintín , unique glacier language in the zone of sustained growth in the last years.
